A coastal and inland walk with spectacular sea cliff views of the North Cornish Coast

  1. From Crackington Haven car park entrance go L across bridge, the turn R at telephone kiosk. Follow broad track round to L, between signpost and old wooden seat, then go through kissing gate on to coast path.
  2. Keep L and follow path up sheltered valley on inland side of steep hill, then continue on cliff path (breathtaking view of folded strata and quartzite bands of Cambeak's Cliffs)
  3. Where stretch of low inland cliffs begins, just beyond signpost and shortly before 2nd signpost, go L along path to reach road by National Trust sign for 'The Strangles'. Looking back from here you can see such fantastic features as Northern Door, promontory of harder rock pierced by natural arch where softer shales have been eroded by sea. Track down to beach is worthwhile despite steep return. You can view remarkable coastal features from sea level.
  4. Go L walking past farm entrance to Trevigue (16th Century Farmhouse), then, short distance along, turn R down drive by Trevigue sign. Bear off to L across grass to go through gate by signpost.
  5. Go directly down field, keeping L of telegraph pole, to reach stile. Continue downhill to edge of wood. Go down tree-shaded path to junction of paths in shady dell by river.
  6. Turn sharp L here, following signpost towards Haven, and continue on obvious path down wooded river valley, descending into East Wood (and Trevigue valley, much of which is now nature reserve).
  7. Cross footbridge, then turn L at junction with track. Cross another footbridge and continue to gate by some houses. Follow track the surfaced lane to main road, then turn L to return to car park.
